The beauty of designing with gemstones is that nothing is permanent. You can patiently plan it all out and after painstakingly putting it together - decide, 'Hmm - it doesn't feel right'. Too short or a bit too long or there's an awkward bunch of stones not connecting! I have my standards. lol But the magic of jewelry making is you can easily change it by simply taking it apart and reworking it! Nothing ever needs to be discarded. It takes time but when I get it right, the piece feels 'grounded'.
Most of the necklaces I create, are not asymmetrical — and yet they hang in perfect balance. I suppose that's my personal challenge as a designer. It makes these pieces unpredictable and oddly unique. There are little nuances of brightly coloured crystals between powerful grounding stones with strong but delicate silver filigree fittings that do not line up perpendicular on either side - and yet it all works.
It takes time, sometimes too much time but in the end it’s what makes the difference between just stringing beads perfectly on either side of a pendant to thoughtfully trying to 'balance' and 'harmonize' these precious ancient stones. It's like music when a piece works ... a beautiful symphony creating silent vibrations of harmony. You know...
